How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Take?

People have been discovering new ways to remove unwanted hair for generations. The most common hair removal methods, like shaving and waxing, only offer temporary benefits. This leaves the person trapped in a constant cycle of upkeep. At Bala Aesthetics and Medispa of Bel Air, MD, we offer laser hair removal with a groundbreaking, powerfully versatile laser to give our clients lasting results.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Take?

Treatment Time Variations

Our laser hair removal device is very effective and streamlined, which helps make the process as fast as possible. For patients who are looking to treat their chin, jawline, or upper lip, the appointment could be carried out in as little as five minutes. Larger areas may take between 30 to 45 minutes. This is the perfect opportunity for you to catch up on that audiobook you’ve been meaning to read, or relax to your favorite music.

Once we meet with you and get a better understanding of your goals, we’ll be able to give you a more personalized appointment estimate. In general, even our busiest clients find it easy to fit these quick appointments into their schedules.

Understanding Treatment Series

Since hair grows in cycles and we want to make sure we set you up for lasting success, we may recommend a treatment series. Treatment series are a great way to make sure each follicle is thoroughly treated, so you have the best chance for smooth, even, lasting results.

Your Results

Even though we recommend a series for lasting benefits, you should start noticing your results before the series is over. Although timelines may vary, about a week after your first treatment you may see the treated hair thinning and falling out.

No Downtime

You don’t have to give up your whole day to get treatment. Since there’s no required downtime, you can continue on with the rest of your busy day as soon as your appointment is over.

How It Works

Before we begin treatment, the first step is for us to meet with you. This will give you the chance to ask your questions and will help us determine if laser removal is a good fit for your goals. Once the consultation is complete, we can move forward with scheduling your treatment plan.

During treatment, the laser will deliver heat energy to the targeted follicles. As the follicles absorb this heat, it permanently damages them. This reduces or disables their ability to grow more hair.

Before Treatment

Some patients wonder if they can wax or pluck their hair before treatment. A good rule of thumb to follow is, if the hair removal method takes your hair out at the root, then it’s a good idea to avoid it before your laser hair appointment. The laser needs to target your hair at its root in order for it to be effective, so it’s important to keep the roots intact.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

The Arms

Due to the flexibility of our laser system, we may be able to treat more areas than what is listed here. Feel free to ask us if you have something specific in mind.

To start with, the arms can be treated, and the underarms are an especially common place for clients to target. Some patients find that treating this area can help reduce their body odor since underarm hair tends to trap sweat and bacteria.

The Legs

Legs often take the longest to shave out of anything, and it’s also easy to miss patches of hair when you’re in a rush. Even worse, rushing could lead to an accidental cut, which you’ll then have to take time to clean and care for. Trying to rush through waxing isn’t any better, since you have to be careful about not burning yourself, and make sure it’s actually going to work.

Permanently reducing leg hair can give you a much-deserved break from years or even decades of dealing with regular hair removal.

The Bikini Line

The skin around the bikini line can be sensitive. Some clients find that waxing is too painful in this area, and that shaving leaves them with irritated skin. Laser removal can help clients feel more confident without giving up on their comfort.

The Back

Regardless of your gender, unwanted hair is unwanted hair. Laser removal isn’t just for women, and if you have unwanted back hair, this could be a very good option. Back hair is very difficult to shave or wax on your own, as you can’t easily see your back while grooming. This area is popular to treat since it allows you to manage this unwanted hair and not have to think about it anymore.

The Chest

If chest hair is thick, it may be too much for a razor to handle. Waxing this area may be more practical than shaving it, but having to go through painful, regular waxing can intimidate some patients. Rather than dealing with regrowth and stubble, you may want to consider permanently reducing the hair in this area.

What Benefits Can I Expect?

Comfort

We use the SHR laser, which uses a gentle, gradual heating method. Like other laser removal devices, the heat will kill your hair follicles. However, the gradual heating that SHR employs will help keep your skin comfortable and safe throughout your treatment. During your appointment, we will be using a sweeping motion to help ensure complete coverage and keep the laser in constant motion.

Contact cooling and treatment will be employed at the same time. When combined with our specialized applicators, all of these factors help our SHR laser treatments be as comfortable and quick as possible.

Safety

Laser hair removal is very common and considered quite safe due to its ability to bypass the skin and target your unwanted hair directly. If they have enough time, some clients even opt to receive this treatment on their lunch break and get right back to work afterward!

Versatility

Many lasers are only able to effectively treat patients with dark hair and lighter skin, but that’s not the case for our laser. We wanted a laser that could meet the needs of a wide range of patients, which is why our laser can treat various skin tones and hair types. We can even treat fine hair, which traditionally has been difficult for older lasers to target.

Time Saver

Shaving, especially if you shave everything, can take a chunk of time out of each day. When you’re feeling exhausted or busy, you’ll have to make the choice between spending your time shaving or dealing with uncomfortable stubble. While waxing doesn’t have to be done as often, when it does need to be repeated it either requires going in for a professional appointment or having to spend time at home getting things set up just right.

With permanent hair reduction, you’ll be able to know that even if life gets crazy, at least you don’t have to worry about constantly shaving and waxing your unwanted hair. Occasional, sparse hair growth may occur after your laser treatment series. However, if this growth happens at all, it’s expected to be quite rare and very easy to manage, which is a significant time saver.

Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs are something everyone dreads and some patients are especially prone to them. These little red bumps are not only painful but also affect the skin’s texture and appearance. Many hair removal methods can lead to ingrown hairs. Even waxing can cause them if the waxing didn’t manage to pull all your hair out at the root.

Laser removal can actually be used as a way to treat ingrown hairs at the root, and is a reliable method to remove hair without risking those dreaded red bumps.

Spontaneity

Sometimes last-minute plans and opportunities can rise up unexpectedly. When those moments pop up, having your unwanted hair already managed can allow you to be more spontaneous. Whether you find yourself going on a date after work or heading out to the beach, you can feel ready faster and have more time to spend on what really matters.

Professionalism

Professional hair removal offers many benefits, as we can use our experience and the cutting-edge tools at our disposal to customize your treatment and provide lasting results. We are proud of the technology we use, as it combines effectiveness, safety, and range all at once.

When it comes to finding the right fit for your needs and your skin, it’s important to be able to trust the technology and the team delivering treatment. This is why we would be happy to talk to you about the process and give you the information you need to make the right call.
