How Long Will Your Microneedling Results Last?

Have you been wanting to give your skin’s health and appearance a little boost? Microneedling uses your body’s natural abilities, by encouraging collagen production throughout the various layers of your treated skin. At Bala Aesthetics and Medispa of Bel Air, MD, we’re pleased to offer this as one of our treatment options.

How Long Will Your Microneedling Results Last?

Several Months

While many patients notice results just a few days after their microneedling appointment, your collagen levels will continue to rise and develop for several weeks. That means you should be enjoying the full effect of your results between four to six weeks after your treatment. This may be when patients choose to come in for a follow-up appointment so they can maintain those results, but this is a personal choice.

Each patient may have a slightly different timeline based on individual factors, so knowing how your skin reacts to treatment will help inform you on how often you may want to touch up your results. While seeking out treatment every three months is common, some patients find that they can go six months before they start to see their results fading.

Timeline Factors

While individual factors like skin health and collagen levels can affect your timeline, the goal of your treatment will also determine how long your results last.

For instance, if you’re treating acne scars you may need a series of treatments to get the results you’re looking for. Once the series is complete, you should be able to enjoy the reduced appearance of your acne scars permanently. Meanwhile, patients who want to help their skin age gracefully may be more likely to schedule regular maintenance sessions.

Understanding Maintenance

Whether you want to set up your sessions on a schedule or just want to wait and see, we will work with you to the best of our ability. For patients who want regular treatments, they can be done as often as every month or two. That said, many patients opt to wait longer unless they’re going through a temporary treatment series for a specific concern.

After we evaluate your skin, we can let you know if a treatment series would be helpful for you. We can also discuss how many treatments we’d recommend in a series. Once you’re happy with the result of your series, we can then move on to maintenance treatments.

How Does It Work?

Powerful Exfoliation

The older our skin gets, the more it struggles to regenerate itself. Collagen levels will start to fall, which means our skin will continue to not only fall behind on cell regeneration, but it will also become less firm, flexible, and strong. Exfoliating at home can be helpful, but it can’t stimulate collagen the same way microneedling can.

This treatment is able to encourage regeneration and exfoliation all throughout the layers of your skin. Your body will “call in reinforcements” and bump up collagen production. As a whole, this treatment can help clear out your pores and dead skin, encourage new skin production, and improve your skin’s health and strength.

What Can It Be Used For?

Improves Signs of Aging

Once the first fine lines start developing, they will continue to develop and deepen over time. Some factors such as sun damage or skin laxity can exaggerate the appearance of wrinkles.

The good news is, since this treatment stimulates collagen, it can help with all those factors. It can encourage regeneration after sun damage, increase elasticity, and improve strength and laxity. These benefits help smooth over and fill out the wrinkles and lines to make them less noticeable.

Prevents Lines and Wrinkles

While this is a helpful way to improve wrinkles, it can also help you delay them. While it can’t stop wrinkles from developing altogether, it can help encourage your skin to age slowly and gracefully. Regular treatments can keep your collagen levels going strong, so you stay ahead of the game.

Strengthens Skin

Many patients know that collagen helps tighten the skin, but they may not know it also helps strengthen the skin. Skin tends to both sag and thin out with age. With supportive treatments like microneedling, you can encourage your skin to be stronger, which helps it be more flexible and youthful. It also can reduce your risk of dealing with consistent dryness or torn skin.

Reduces Scarring and Stretch Marks

Many patients still carry the battle scars of fighting acne in their youth. Many patients also have stretch marks throughout their body that have stubbornly refused to fade with time. This treatment encourages your skin to produce new skin cells. These new skin cells tend to be healthier, as they are nourished by collagen. As old cells are replaced, you should see your scars fade with each repeated treatment.

Improves Pore Appearance

When they notice a change in their pores’ appearance, many people assume that their pores have grown. The truth is, pores don’t actually grow. Instead, they can stretch out when they’re clogged or weighed down with skin laxity and gravity.

Microneedling can be a way to get a professional, high-quality exfoliation, so you know your pores are thoroughly cleared out. By increasing collagen, your pores will also be encouraged to tighten up and fight back against gravity.

Sun Damage

Most of us have a decent understanding of how important it is to protect our skin from the sun. That said, many of us can remember not taking skin care as seriously as we should have in our youth. Years of enjoying the sunshine without wearing sunscreen or protective clothing can lead to sun damage and premature aging.

Some signs of sun damage include uneven skin texture, early wrinkles, or red pigmentation on the nose or cheeks. Don’t be too discouraged if you notice some signs of sun damage; collagen and professional exfoliation are both powerful ways to help your skin heal.

What Are the Benefits?

Quick Appointments

If the thought of fitting appointments into your busy schedule is overwhelming, knowing that this treatment can be carried out quickly may come as a relief. While the treatment time can vary depending on your needs, most appointments can be completed within 30 minutes, especially if you’ve already completed your consultation.

Since this treatment also doesn’t require any downtime, you won’t have to wait around after your appointment. This can open the door for many busy patients who struggle to make room in their schedules to treat themselves.

Gentle

While cosmetic injectables are popular and considered very safe, some patients just don’t want injections for various reasons. Microneedling is minimally invasive and can be a good option for patients who want a more natural approach to skin care.

Flexible

During a consultation, we will be able to go over your personal goals, skin health, and expectations. Since this treatment can improve many issues, it’s a flexible option that can be a great fit for a lot of people. Patients of any gender can benefit from it, and it can help a wide range of ages improve their skin health and symptoms.

Natural Glow

If you want to improve the appearance of your skin, but have been hesitating to take that step due to a fear of looking artificial, this could be a great call for you. Since it works together with your body’s natural healing response to give you your results, you should simply look like a more refreshed and youthful version of yourself.

Improve Confidence

No matter what skin issue you’re dealing with, knowing that you’re taking steps to improve it can do wonders for confidence levels. Helping patients feel more comfortable in their skin can help give them that boost of confidence they’ve been looking for.

Lasting Benefits

Improving collagen levels is something that benefits your skin. While many treatments are effective in covering up “problem areas,” this treatment’s approach is to boost and support your skin’s health and its ability to function the way it’s supposed to.

Collagen and elastin levels both suffer with age, and these crucial building blocks help your skin stay hydrated, elastic, strong, and smooth. Since microneedling can help increase both collagen and elastin at the same time, you’re getting a well-rounded treatment that’s actually helpful for your skin while still offering great results.
